Some cable companies are pushing for unbundled channels — but not for you

Sick of paying for cable TV channels you don’t watch? Reportedly some operators are looking for a way — through negotiation or regulation — to end channel bundling, where to get certain channels (like MTV) they’re compelled to pack others (like TV Land) owned by the same company into their basic lineups. According to Reuters , smaller operators like Suddenlink and Mediacom are leading the charge, while even bigger companies like Comcast, Time Warner and DirecTV are feeling squeezed in retransmission fee disputes

EasyJet founder set to launch EasyJet competitor

Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of EasyJet, is set to launch a new airline to compete with his old company. The new airline will be called FastJet.

RIP, Jack Layton

RIP, Jack Layton, former Toronto councillor and present head of Canada’s New Democratic Party. He was as good a politician as Canada ever had, and better than anyone who’s been on any of the ballots I’ve been allowed to tick for many, many years. Layton died from prostate cancer; he announced his diagnosis in February 2010, and stepped down in July. He was 61.

Microsoft inks Android patent deal with Velocity Micro — sound familiar?

Further proving that patent infringement claims are incentive enough to drum up licensing deals, yet another Android device maker has signed on the dotted line to pay up to Redmond. Following up on Monday’s licensing agreement with Itronix , Microsoft has just announced a deal with Velocity Micro, Inc., that will have the outfit feeding the software giant’s coffers. Of course, details are scarce here; in fact, all we really know is Velocity Micro will pay royalties in regards to its Android-based devices, including the Cruz Tablet .

Apple Announces iCloud, Steve Jobs WWDC Keynote

So now we know annual developer’s conference will unveil “iCloud®, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering,” but we don’t know yet what it is, or what exactly will reside at the domain name it may have bought for $4.5 million in April
